…and the moon was being lifted gently like a silver mirror. The wispy, glinting light revealed a man in a white lab coat dragging a lame leg. Turning a corner, he reached a home. There, he logged on and checked MakeZine.com, and found out about the spooky Halloween contest going on. Cackling in delight, he went down to his basement to create something utterly evil….

Brain Stew & 25 Or 6 To 4 Conspiracy

Okay, so I was listening to Chicago’s “Only The Beginning” Album, and I couldn’t help but notice that the bass line (I think, or guitar) for “25 Or 6 To 4″ seemed oddly familiar. After a bit of thinking and research, I found the other song I was looking for: “Brain Stew” by Green Day. Take a listen to both of these songs and see if you can hear what I’m talking about. It’s slower going for Green Day, but the same notes repeated over and over as Chicago’s song.

A little more in depth research with one of my favorite sites, Wikipedia, revealed the dates when both CD albums were released. I knew Chicago was older, but here’s some proof.

“The Very Best of Chicago Only The Beginning”
“Brain Stew/Jaded”

As for Chicago, it was “Recorded January 1969 -January 1995″, whereas “Brain Stew” was “Recorded 1995″. Hmm. I think that Chicago had that bass line first….
